Memories of the Allied air raid on Dresden are shaped by countless perspectives, interpretations, and contested narratives. Against this backdrop, the question arises: What role has transnationality played and does it continue to play in the commemoration of February 13th? The interactive forum “February 13th: Transnational” addressed this central question comprehensively and systematically for the first time. Through lectures, panels, workshops, and excursions, the forum sought to foster an exchange regarding international interpretations and their impact on local acts of remembrance. We examined the memory of this historical event far beyond the city of Dresden itself and explored the implications for the current forms of Dresden’s commemorative culture.

Die Erinnerung an den alliierten Luftangriff auf Dresden ist geprägt von unzähligen
Perspektiven, Interpretationen und Deutungskämpfen. Vor diesem Hintergrund stellt sich die
Frage: Welche Rolle spielte und spielt Transnationalität in der Erinnerung an den 13. Februar?
Das interaktive Forum “13. Februar transnational” widmete sich dieser zentralen Frage
erstmals umfassend und systematisch. Die Vorträge, Panels, Workshops und Exkursionen des
Forums, wollten alle in einen Austausch über die internationale Deutung und deren
Auswirkung auf das lokale Erinnern bringen. Wir haben uns mit der Erinnerung an dieses
historischen Ereignisses weit über die Stadt Dresden hinaus befassen und fragten nach den
Konsequenzen für die aktuellen Erscheinungsformen der Dresdner Erinnerungskultur.
