Manos Tsangaris was of the opinion that one could not make a film about his work when he asked Barbara Lubich in 2015: „Do you want to try?“ Knowing full well that his work is an examination of our media-influenced perception, Lubich agreed.
The rhythm of Manos Tsangaris‘ life between the worlds is the thread of the filmic narrative. We accompany him during rehearsals, see what moves him. We watch how it is not always easy for him to work with the music business, with the ensemble. Here, too, there are rules of the game, habits that need to be reflected. The framing can be made conscious. We become witnesses to an experience that re-shapes the way we see the world. And last but not least, we see and hear those images and sounds that turn on the cinema in the minds of the viewer-listener.

Der Trommler Manos Tsangaris entschied sich als Student für eine neue Art des Aktivismus: er wurde Komponist. Seine Bühne sind Wälder, Cafés, U-Bahn Stationen, Seniorenheime oder Opernhäuser. Ein Film über die Macht des Zuhörens, denn wenn wir hinhören, verändert sich die Welt vor unseren Augen.
Manos war der Meinung, man könne keinen Film über seine Arbeit machen, als er 2015 Barbara Lubich fragte: „Willst du es versuchen? “. Wohl wissend, dass Manos Tsangaris Werk selbst eine Auseinandersetzung mit unserer medial geprägten Wahrnehmung ist, lies sich Lubich darauf ein. So entstanden erste Filmaufnahmen für „Music is a frame“.
Der Rhythmus von Manos Leben zwischen den Welten ist der Faden der filmsichen Erzählung. Wir begleiten ihn bei der Probe, sehen was ihn bewegt, wir schauen zu wie es auch für ihn nicht immer einfach ist, mit dem Betrieb Musik, mit dem Ensemble zu arbeiten. Auch hier herrschen Spielregeln, Gewohnheiten, die einer Spiegelung bedürfen. Die Rahmung darf bewusst gemacht werden kann. Wir werden Zeuge einer Erfahrung, die den Blick auf die Welt neu prägt. Und last but not least sehen und hören wir jene Bilder und Klänge, die das Kino im Kopf des Zuschauer-Zuhörer anschalten.
