The past manifests itself in the present—again and again, everywhere—including in Dresden’s commemorations of the 1945 bombing. Yet memory is malleable. As the historic cityscape is reconstructed, the act of remembrance evolves into a conflict involving a multitude of voices. Everyone is present. But to whom does the memory belong?
*Come Together: Dresden and February 13th* is a film about the commemoration of the bombing of Dresden in February 1945. Tracing the narrative from the immediate reactions in Nazi Germany to the GDR’s characterization of the bombing as an „imperialist act,“ the film examines various forms of remembrance; however, it focuses primarily on post-reunification efforts to counter the neo-Nazi appropriation of the anniversary by establishing a different culture of commemoration. „It impresses not only with its wealth of material but, above all, with its thoughtfully conceived and consistently compelling cinematic approach.“ (film service)

Vergangenheit zeigt sich in der Gegenwart, immer wieder, überall: Auch in Dresden im Gedenken an die Bombardierung von 1945. Doch Erinnerung ist formbar. Während die historische Kulisse wiederersteht, wandelt sich das Gedenken zu einem vielstimmigen Konflikt. Alle sind da. Aber wem gehört die Erinnerung?
Come together. Dresden und der 13. Februar ist ein Film über das Gedenken an die Bombardierung Dresdens im Februar 1945. Von der unmittelbaren Reaktion im NS-Deutschland über die Bewertung der Bombardierung als „imperialistischen Akt“ in der DDR beleuchtet er die Formen des Gedenkens, legt den Schwerpunkt aber auf die Bemühungen nach der Wiedervereinigung – der Vereinnahmung des Jahrestags durch Neonazis eine andere Gedenkkultur entgegen zu halten. „Dabei beeindruckt er nicht nur durch seine Fülle an Material, sondern vor allem auch durch seine klug durchdachte, jederzeit spannende filmische Aufarbeitung.“(filmdienst)
